Our herdshare exists because of the shared values between our farm and the communities we serve — care and respect for the animals and land we steward, and a desire for high-quality, nutritious food. What is a Herdshare?

In technical terms, a herdshare is a contractual agreement between a farmer and an owner of livestock - the shareholder or member - through which the member is able to obtain raw milk and other products from the herd. By joining our herdshare, you become a partial owner of our herd, allowing you to receive raw milk and other delicious dairy products from your own cows. In essence, a herdshare is a membership to receive raw milk - as directly purchasing raw milk for human consumption is illegal in the State of Oregon.

As a herdshare member, you pay Windy Acres a boarding fee to take care of your share of the herd. That boarding fee is what your milk costs per month. It's that easy. Currently, our herdshare program only involves raw dairy products, including milk, cream, butter, yogurt, ice cream, kefir, sour cream and more. Other farm products like meat, eggs, raw milk cheese, raw honey and more are available for sale to the general public, though current herdshare members receive first access to these products when they are available.

Herdshare Locations

Windy Acres is proud to offer our delicious raw milk to herdshare members throughout Oregon. Based in Prineville, members have the option of picking up their milk from our farmstore any day of the week. We also make weekly deliveries to Bend and Redmond, where members can pick up their milk from coolers located at Central Oregon Locovore and La Frontera, respectively. We also make bi-monthly deliveries to Portland, and a monthly delivery to the Ashland/Medford area. Don't see your part of Oregon listed here? We're always open to hosting additional drop locations. Herdshare Pricing

Our herdshare fee structure consists of two components: a yearly "buy in" or membership fee and a monthly boarding fee. One year of herdshare membership costs $120, prorated at $10 per month. The monthly boarding fee is dependent upon how many shares you would like to purchase - or how much milk you would like to receive. One herd share entitles you to 1 gallon of milk per week, at a cost of $90 per month. Two shares, or 2 gallons of milk per week, costs $180 per month, and so on. We also offer half-shares, which entitles you to one-half gallon of milk per week, for $48 per month. Herdshare members also have the option of converting their milk to other equivalent raw dairy products, including raw butter, cream and more.

Herdshare fees are due on or before the 15th of each month and are payable by cash, check, Venmo or PayPal. Windy Acres is also pleased to accept SNAP/EBT benefits as payment for herdshare membership. Please contact us to learn more about paying with this option.

Upon receiving your signed contract, membership fee (prorated to $10 per month) and your first month's boarding fees (dependent on how many shares you are purchasing), your milk will be included in our next drop. Herdshare fees are payable by cash, check, Venmo or PayPal.
